My Fan Philosophy

Jon is widely known for his direct, tough-love, put yourself out there approach to people, but I am not. Thus, I applaud Jon for willingly stepping into the public eye to share his wisdom, inspire his fans, and make a positive impact on the lives of those he sets out to help and those he incidentally reaches along the way.

To fully honor him, I believe it’s my responsibility to recognize that he is more than his media persona and appreciate him as a complete human being. While there is a lot of data about Jon that comes directly from him, it’s still only a small part of the whole of who he is, even if I hang on every word he says. We are all constantly evolving, and I could never assume I know him better than he knows himself. Therefore, I make a concerted effort to celebrate only the part I know and to minimize my speculation.

Still, in the words of my favorite hospitality expert, “I like to do my research.” I also have a point of view. When writing this blog about Jon, I take his word as golden and make the most respectable effort I can to accurately represent who he says he is through his shows, podcasts, interviews, and books and other media. Try as I might to know everything I can and to be true to what he says, it will all still be partial and filtered through my lens so please keep in mind that this blog is just as much about me as it is about Jon and Bar Rescue.

To be clear, I admire Jon and am actually excited to have someone who inspires me and that I can admire because my standards are so very high. Any critiques I provide are intended to be kind, infused with humor, and undergirded by an enormous amount of love and admiration. After reading this blog, there will be no need to wonder if I started off on the wrong foot with Jon; I start out a devoted fan and I stay that way.

Finally, one of the comedic strategies I use in this blog is to emphasize my admiration for Jon through hyperbole. I may overdo it for fun, but make no mistake, the underlying sentiments are genuine and true. If you read this blog, chuckle in disbelief and think, “This person is whacko” because of the sheer amount of time, love, and admiration poured into it, then I have succeeded in accomplishing my goals when I created it. Thank you for reading and, hopefully, sharing a laugh with me. Even more importantly, thank you for joining my pourly executed, somewhat comedic, and terribly sappy tribute to the illustrious Jon Taffer.
